Our inspiration for February and March is Layla Sheikh. She a Somalian refugee and the mother of 3 beautiful children. The two children pictured above were taken away from her by CPS when she did not understand the process, language or the culture. They have now been adopted and she is yearning for them back. She believes there will be a miracle and she will get her children back. We are hoping that someone reading this will know the way.
Layla has written two books:
1) a children's book, Farhiyo, the Miracle One: Bullied by the Village Children, Rescued by the Crocodiles, and
2) an adult book, They Stole My Precious Children, about her children being taken away.
She is currently raising funds for publishing these books and hopes to publish them in 2013.
Why is Layla an inspiration? She survived female genital mutilation in her country, she escaped by foot during a war in Somalia and she was treated less than human in the U.S., yet she still stands proud and strong in support of all women.
You can contact Layla directly at: laylaruns@gmail.com. Here is a link to her story: http://www.mauiweekly.com/page/content.detail/id/509986/Victim-of-Domestic-Violence-Pleas-for-Her-Children-s-Return.html?nav=16#sthash.loKLOR51.gbpl
You may have seen Layla running around the island. She runs 10 - 27 miles a day. If you have a business, she will run for $10 a mile with your Business Logo T-shirt.
If you would like to make a contribution to her publishing or legal fund, please use mauivibes@yahoo.com in Paypal and comment "for Layla".
Thanks and Blessings,
